Understanding stem cells
We have all heard of stem cells but what are they and why are they important for the human body?
Stem cells are cells that can change into a number of different cell types in the body during early development. Often times they can act as a form of repair system for the body. Dividing in order to rejuvenate other cell types where deficiencies are found. Each time a stem cell divides, it creates a new cell that can become another type of cell or remain a stem cell and divide further. Stem cells can become a number of different types of cells including muscle cells and even brain cells.
Why stem cells are so different to other cells
Stem cells differ from other types of cells in two ways:
1. The cells are capable of renewing themselves through cell division even after being inactive for a long time.
2. Stem cells can be altered to become tissue cells or organ cells under the right conditions.
In different parts of the body, the activity of stem cells differs. In organs like the heart, stem cells will only divide under specific conditions. Comparatively, stem cells found in bone marrow are regularly dividing in order to replace and repair damaged cells.
How can stem cell treatment help the human body?
Stem cells can help in a number of ways. Due to their unique qualities that allow them to divide and regenerate other cells, stem cells could potentially be used to treat diabetes, heart disease and arthritis. Everyday scientists and doctors around the world are studying and in some cases administering stem cell therapy to patients.
Stem cells used with Cell-Innovations
Cell-Innovations technology use adult stem cells that are derived from the body of the patient. These cells can be taken from bone marrow, adipose tissue and blood. Adult stem cells can also be grown in a laboratory under the right conditions.
With Cell-Innovations, the process uses adipose tissue to obtain the stem cells. The cells obtained from the process are called Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF). This contains both stem cells and other important cells.
Why adipose tissue?
According to continued research, adipose tissue is known to yield anything from 100-1000 times more stem cells in comparison to bone marrow. Find out more about the benefits of adipose tissue stem cells here.
Where can you receive stem cell therapy with Cell-Innovations?
Cell-Innovations are used by a number of national stem cell therapy practices.
